That doesn't make sense ... you want
	TEXMFSYSVAR = "/var/lib/texmf"
as I have shown you in the Debian patch.

When you use selfautoparent then it will be relative paths which leads
to:\

. is standard notation on all filesystems I know and indicates the
current working directory.
