Klaus' suggestion of trying -o exec with mount seems to work.
My /etc/fstab at home has iso9660, ro, user, noauto
so I do not understand why the dvd should mound with the noexec option.
I looked at my office machine: there indeed the fstab has the noexec
option, so I understand why it does not work.
In any case, when I do:
mount -t iso9660 -o exec /dev/hdc /cdrom
I have no problem. I have not tried it on my office machine, but I am
sure the problem must be the same.
Thanks to Klaus and Karl for looking into the matter. I will not swear to
it, but I am sure I have run programs from my dvd at home before. I will
investigate this further.
Sebastian
