Versions of everything in the host system should be close to what is
listed in 

with newer versions of bc, libelf, iproute2, linux, make,
procps-ng.

I don't understand what the test results are supposed to look like,
but I'm not convinced hat setting the locale to UTF-8 or utf8 is the
problem.

When I look at the output I have the impression that the tests run
in a utf8 environment and try to convert to or from euc and sjis.
They then seem to move a fair of '.txt' and '.log' files with
non-UTF-8 names, plus some '-tmp.tex' files to the eptests/
directory.  Short example below.

I noticed in the copy that came back to me in the mailing lists that
soem of the codepoints looked different (as if random 8-bit
ASCII-derivative), but the error appears to be that the files ending
in '-tmp.tex' have not been  created.
