Hi Aaron,

there is also my attempt to give an overvie over the TeX-world as much
as I have one myself, maybe that also helps:

(texdoc tex-overview should also give you the document on your computer)

It's not fully up to date as I don't have the capabilities to keep up
with recent developments, I'm always glad for contributions.
