Hi Walt, 
many years ago I installed MT1 on Linux.  AFAIR it worked almost
out-of-the box.  The only thing I had to do was to replace

  CONSOLE="CON"

by 

  CONSOLE="/dev/tty"

in the BEGIN section of the awk scripts.  All other files have the
same time stamp, hence I'm convinced that nothing else had to be
adapted.  The .bat files were only wrappers for other programs and
don't do anything serious.  They were not needed on Unix.

Don't know whether it's that simple with newer versions of MT1 too.
But it's always possible to compile a sample file and see where it
crashes.
