An excellent idea.
An a related note, people adding URIs at the end of sentences (in
[La]TeX) should probably insert a \thinspace before the punctuation, not
just to provide some visual cue that it's not part of the URI, but also
in the event that the document is *not* written with hyperref where the
URI is a correctly formatted link, sloppy copying and pasting will
ensure that the punctuation appears with some white-space before it,
which may help to minimise the damage.
