That depends. MS could be using some undocumented procedure to
command Acrobat to close the file.
Way Back When there was (apparently) a package called pdfopen or
pdfclose which would help people work around MS's intransigence.
However, I don't see any evidence of it on CTAN (with my one search
attempt) and also there is this
