tinytex "signature verification error"

Dear Tex Live,
I had a sudden problem with knitting my Rmd document to pdf with tinytex.
It's been working fine until today (last successful knit of the same Rmd
was yesterday).

All my R packages and Rstudio are up to date.
I also updated tinytex.
Still the problem persists.

I have used half a day now googling this problem, but can't seem to find a
solution that works.

latex engine is xelatex if that helps
