config.ps and landscape page size

Yes and if no other solution comes up, this is probably what I will
document: "If you are using a page format which is a landscape
version of known page format, call dvips with -t unknown to get the
right mediabox and avoid problems with rotation of individual pages
and appearances."

I don't want to have to add tests for isls and similar everywhere to
detect this.

But personally I think it would be much better if  dvips
wouldn't do this landscape-look-up by default but only if one opt
for it, but as Karl said it is probably not possible to change this
now.
