Upgrading to TL-2014 is certainly the best solution. On the other
hand I think that restoring the PATH entry isn't difficult either.
Admittedly, maintaining environment variables under Windows is a pain
due to the braindead user interface.
As far as the registry is concerned: I had to manipulate it several
times with regedit.exe because some programs can't be installed
properly if there are remnants from older versions. I don't recommend
to do this unless it's absolutely necessary. It's too easy to break
the system accidentally.
If you only want to explore the registry you can use the "Export"
function in the regedit menu. This dumps the database into a pure
text file (UTF-16 encoding) which can be processed by any text editor.
Then it's less likely that you break anything accidentally and you can
efficiently search for strings or regular expressions. regedit.exe
has a search facility too but it's utterly slow.
Regards,
Reinhard
