hmm, that is not quite easy, when one does not understand the specific 
configuration files.

It may be that the change is too large, and tha tit may affect too many 
people.

The involved files are dvips.def and grapgics.cfg AFAIK. But I haven't yet 
been able to create a setup that will recognize MPS in dvi-mode.

I'll keep reading / trying.
