Karl,
according to your explanation, the main idea behind the changes between
TDS 1.0 and 1.1 was removing engine-specific directories, because they
were considered unneeded. I tried to explain that this assumption was
wrong in regards to omega, because omega does need a place for files not
bound to a specific format.
This is the main problem. As far as there is no such directory defined
in TDS, I can't make antomega conform to the TDS recommendations,
because I don't know WHERE should I put files which currently reside
outside of the lambda tree (e. g. hyphenation patterns).
As you can see, this is a practical problem, but I don't think a
reasonable solution can be found without discussing the TDS theory.
And of course I think this should be a long-time solution, which
would prevent any similar problems in future. I don't like
quick hacks (e. g. "put your files wherever you want and forgot it").
