P.S. Do you think it should be fixed in dvipdfmx
instead of in kpathsea?
Yes, I believe it's a dvipdfmx bug. Besides dvips, also dvitype finds
the ./myfont in your test file as intended.
I went to a lot of trouble in kpse to say that if a filename starts with
./ or ../ or /... (on Unix; there are other cases on Windows), it is
looked for as-is, and not according to any search path. Of course I
don't claim there are no bugs or inconsistencies, but that was the intent. -k
