I am afraid typical tourist rip-off charges. Ridiculous "porterage" charge slapped on every bill. If there is porterage, they will get tipped anyway. Also, scandalous phone charges. For example, a call to LA had a minimum of $8 slapped on, even for a 5 second phone call. In this day and age of cheap phone calls I find this objectionable and I am amazed people agree to pay this "you are trapped so you have no choice" charge. I also object to $1 charge on 1-800 calls. Taxes were more than expected. Most foreign participants are not used to these taxes, so they should have been warned. > >9) DID YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH TRANSPORTATION? No > >--------HOW COULD CONFERENCES BE BETTER ORGANIZED: > >10) COMMENTS? I have to say I don't think this venue was ideal. It cost a lot to get there, but a $1000 hotel bill on top of that hurts a lot of people. There should have been local lower cost accommodation available. One of the participants stayed in accommodation 15 miles away, paying $65 per night, including breakfast. A convertible car for $200 made the package half the price we were forced to pay. The exhorbitant food and bar prices in the hotel prevented the usual social interaction "in the bar". It was noticeable that there were almost no TeX participants at breakfast, as they didn't want to pay nearly $20 per head. Please remember, in most countries breakfast included in the nightly charge. Sorry, but I do feel strongly about this. We must take into account people who have come from places as far away as Vietnam and China. This one point spoilt a fantastic conference. > >--------OTHER: > >11) REMARKS > > > >--------SIGNATURE: >
