    I think I just need to know what to change other than translating the
    texlive-en.tex to a texlive-it.tex.

That's the whole job.  That one file is the TL documentation, such as it is.

    However, any advice about the style and the process would be very
    usefull.

I guess my only advice is to look at the other translations (German,
French, ...) when you run into questions and see if you can adapt their
solutions.  The other translators are on this list, so feel free to
write when you get stuck.  I personally am a stupid 98%-monolingual
American, so am of little help in these matters.

Oh, and if you (or anyone) finds that changes to the English document or
style file would be helpful in making the translations, then I'm more
than happy to do that.

    I'll begin soon, maybe today.
