Sounds like a single user installation in C:\program files. That's
not a good idea. If you want to do a single user installation,
install miktex in some folder for which the current (normal) user
has writing rights. Such a single user installation can (and should)
be done without any admin rights/password etc. 
(I have a single user installation in D:\miktex2.9). 

Use C:\program files only if you want a multi user installation.
