[texhax] Equations too widely spaced

Dear Tug members

I am using amsmath style and have always found the generated equations too
well (vertically) spaced.

Is this an AMS fixed choice or is there a way of customizing the space,
please?

I have created a minimal 17kb file which contains all the packages in use.
