Can I suggest that you try protext (www.tug.org/pretext). This
includes a PDF file with embedded instructions on installing all the
components needed to install all the necessary editors, viewers etc
needed to compile, view and print your (La)TeX files.
I have installed Texlive on computers with Windows XP and 7 and the
installations have always gone smoothly. At the same time I think
that Protext is easier for the beginner.
