The only protocol is: try to do minimal examples as much as possible, 
and if you can't just say so. I for one didn't read your original 
message because the document was so large indeed. Such a "protocol" 
you'll have to respect on any TeX-related list, I suppose. That's what 
Robin tried to tell you, with perhaps a little irony or grumpiness or 
annoyance or whatever, anyway nothing so outright comdemnable as to be 
denounced by some masked avenger.
