In the math department at Aarhus University, DK, we don't have any rules
regarding the layout. Most PhDs handin their dissertations in A4 or B5,
single spaced, doublepaged. I usually encourage them to treat it like a
book, and make it nice to look at.
BTW: the dissertaions are all online.
