Perhaps better, in that it adjusts the size automatically is, for example,
$$
y = \left. \left(\frac{a+b}{c+d}\right) \right/
\left(\frac{e+f}{g+h}\right)
$$
The \left. matches the \right/ and sets the / to the size of what's
between them.
One could instead use \left/ ..... \right. if the denominator were
bigger and needed a larger /
