[texhax] Problems with pstricks

Hi TUG support,


I am trying to implement the pstricks in LaTeX, starting with the Examples 
on page 226 - Example 5.5.5 of the LaTeX Graphics Companion (Actually I 
have tried two other similar examples Example 5.5.6 & 5.5.7 on page 227) 
UNSUCCESSFULLY.

I am using mactex TeXShop. and have not had any other problems with my 
installations etc.

When I compile the examples one of which is coded as follows;

my preamble contains

\RequirePackage{pstricks}
%

\begin{pspicture}(2,2)
        \psgrid
\end{pspicture}\hspace{2em}
\begin{pspicture}(2,2)
        \psgrid[gridwidth=0.1pt]
\end{pspicture}



I get the same error in all of them which is;


! Undefined control sequence.
<recently read> \c at lor@to at ps 
 
l.943 \end
          {pspicture}\hspace{2em}

I'll appreciate your suggestions and assistance
