I realized that this was because the second test case used 00 minutes, both
times. Now that the values are re-set every time, the initialization is not

Cool, thanks. There is one last issue, which does not hurt me, but if you
plan to put this somewhere (and you probably should. CTAN?), it should
probably be addressed:
\timediff10:15-11:20
results in 1.8, presumably because this is not a real float, but two integers
concat'ed with a dot in between. LaTeX probably eats the leading zeros as
it (normally) should.
Last but not least, do you know how I could make the other function
[the output of] your function as input? There must be some way, but I can't
find it :/
