[texhax] Font help needed.

I am still working on my font listing project. I have a series of 
fonts that I cannot process properly. They appear to be different 
sizes of the same base pfb file.
For example file sfxc3583.pfb exists.
The following line appears in pdftex.map:
laxc3583 SFXC3583 "T2AEncoding ReEncodeFont" <cm-super-t2a.enc 
<sfxc3583.pfb

But laxc3583 doesn't seem to appear anywhere on my system.  And the 
system tries but cannot generate a tfm file when I use this:
\font\rx laxc3583

There are dozens of these instances. Must I generate each tfm 
individually with afm2tfm or the like?
