[texhax] breakcites.sty

Martin Schroeder believes I have rediscovered breakcites.sty.  He 
obviously did not try it on the file:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{breakcites}

\begin{document}

Here is an example of a citation that can cause
problems: \cite{A}


\begin{thebibliography}{xxx}

\bibitem[A \emph{et al.}]{A}

\end{thebibliography}

\end{document}

What I discovered is that breakcites.sty does not work right.  
Incidentally, if you replace \emph{et al.} by {\it et al.}, it does work 
properly.
