[texhax] Subscripts after Greek letters not low enough?

Hello
Is there an easy way to lower the subscripts a little in the
following?
\documentclass{amsart}
\begin{document}
\[
\eta_{ij} = log\left(\frac{p_{ij}}{1-p_{ij}}\right)
\]
\end{document}
in particular, the subscripts after the eta are not (to my eye) that
clearly distinguishable as subscripts. The problem seems a little worse
in a Beamer presentation, where the same code is part of a frame.
Or are my eyes playing tricks on me and this is really not a problem?
TIA
Peter
