[texhax] pdf latex

Hi All!

I've had great success with straight tex and latex.  However, converting all graphics to eps is a bit of a nuisance.  

question 1:  Is pdflatex the only choice to be able to import png files directly?
question 2:  Is there a guide or two available to describe methods of getting graphics other than eps in directly?
