[texhax] amalg vs Pi slanted/italics problem - product/coproduct

In mathmode

  \Pi

gives the II capital greek pi symbol, and

   \amalg

gives the upside-down capital pi symbol II.

However, in emphasise/slanted/italic mode
\Pi is slanted but \amalg is not!

Is there a workaround to this?
