[texhax] spacing issue

In the second case, I use a script that changes directories into the
directory and then executes the tex and dvips commands. This
appears to be broken.
What directory are you changing into? Perhaps there are other styles or
packages which are changing the results in that directory, being read in
one case and not the other due to "." in the search paths.
If that's not it, I advise comparing the .log files in the two cases for
clues.
