[texhax] dvips error message

When compiling a very large DVI file with many fonts I
got the following error message:

This is dvips(k) 5.92a Copyright 2002 Radical Eye
Software (www.radicaleye.com)
' TeX output 2003.10.08:0038' -> report3.ps
dvips: ! out of string space

I couldn't find any environment variable in texmf.cnf
related to dvips string space. What can I do to be
able to compile the file?
