[texhax] LaTeX \marginpar equivalent for TeX

Hi,

I want to put some text in the margin. I'm used to LaTeX, where I can use 
\marginpar, but I have no clue what command to use in plain TeX. The FAQ on 
www.tug.org did not give me any clues.
