There's been some discussion of this on the Omega mailing list, as well
as on the OpenType list.

In particular, Yannis has some graduate students working on adapting
Omega to use OpenType fonts, and initial work on this has been a
comprehensive comparison of OpenType and Omega / TeX fonts / files.
