MetaType1 in TeX Live

    PostScript Type 1 is not any more the format of importance.

I hope it will still be supported.

    And an additional question: when the next release of TeX Live is 
    scheduled?

The next full release will be in spring 2020. But for non-compiled
programs, it doesn't matter. I install new scripts as they show up on
CTAN and they are available through tlmgr update to anyone who wants
them.

To work well, scripts need to be self-locating and not depend on any
aspects of the build/installation system, since for TL, that has no
relationship to the user's system where it will actually be run.
