BTW, for Windows users, README are not so nice for use with texdoc:
I guess most of them run texdoc from with "Run" command (Windows logo
key+R) which doesn't provide a persistent window. Hence, if:

  texdoc <package>

launches a pdf file, this is OK, but not if it launches a plain text
file.
