I don't get you. If you want to try TeX Live 2012 pretest you don't need
to adjut your PATH variable to point to TL2012 binaries, it is enough to
use TeXworks and its feature: which path to use for tex-related binaries.
See my example (screenshot) and log files (ex-201{0,1,2}.log).
