[tex-live] utf-8.def not found

Hello!

After replacing teTeX installation with TL-2011, I can no longer process 
a file with:

    \usepackage[utf-8]{inputenc}

in it... The error is:

    ! LaTeX Error: File `utf-8.def' not found.

The work-around is to sym-link the entire 
/texlive/texmf-dist/doc/generic/t2/etc/utf-8/* to the current directory...

This was definitely not a problem with teTeX (as installed by the 
FreeBSD port, at least), nor even with an /earlier/ TL, that I tried a 
few years ago.

Please, advise. Thank you!
