I updated install-tl to do some postprocessing for xetex even in the
tl-portable case. This postprocessing configures and runs fc-cache.

You can get this new install-tl e.g. by going to
http://www.tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Master/install-tl?view=log and
pressing the download button for revision 9752.

Before re-running tl-portable.bat with the new install-tl, remove
texmf-var from your ssd card to force regeneration of everything.

Unfortunately, in my test fc-cache failed on almost every single
font directory.  This is a problem I encountered earlier in
connection with the semi-portable run from dvd install, but it could
not be reproduced by others. So maybe it is an artefact of my test
installation.
