Even for i686-pc-linux a straight "build" using the defaults on Ubuntu-8.10
gives:
$ ldd xdvi-motif xdvi-xaw
xdvi-motif:
[...]
libXau.so.6 => /usr/lib/libXau.so.6 (0xb7b1a000)
[...]
xdvi-xaw:
[...]
libXau.so.6 => /usr/lib/libXau.so.6 (0xb7c8b000)
[...]
I think libXau would be installed via package dependencies on most systems
that are used to run X applications, so the problem should be limited
to systems
that are configured without X11.
