Some time ago I added some lines of code which allows you to run the
updmap script provided by Fabrice on Unix systems too. As far as I
remember the difference is that Fabrice's script runs "dir" always and
the script we have in TeX Live runs "ls" instead if it detects that
it's on Unix.
texmf/scripts/tetex/updmap.pl is currently used on Windows only but it
should be possible to test it on Unix systems as well.
