It is true that I doubt whether the kernel itself is 2.4 or 2.6 matters,
but rather the age of the system surrounding the kernel. On the other
hand, I'd be surprised and impressed if you could take a random
2.4-vintage system, drop a 2.6-kernel into it, and have it just work.
The most important problem is not the common libraries like libc

2.6-vintage system *is* libc.

but the more system-specific stuff like linux-gate.so and libgcc_s.so.
I have never seen TL user reports about those. I've never even heard of
the former. The latter I've had my share of problems with, but not in TL.
