I should be aware of that, being one of the maintainers of teTeX in
Debian... No, the question is *what*exactly* the license conditions of
TeX, the program, are (and of MetaFont, the CM fonts etc.). In fact
this seems to be all but clear, it also has been disputed, without a
result, on this list recently.
I'm going to dig through the archives to find statements by DEK one of
these days; but it's not going to result in TeX being declared as
non-free by Debian. At least I would be *very* surprised.
