Some thoughts regarding TL-2006:
TL-2005 provides GNU-Emacs but unfortunately there is no configuration
to make it usable for TeX conveniently.
A colleague used TL-2005 and it was not easy to install auc-tex under
Windows because we couldn't make use of the Makefile. Fortunately, I
have cygwin on my machine. Of course, everything can be done manually
but it takes more time and this is not what I'm payed for.
For TL-2006 it would be nice to have a site-start.el which loads
auc-tex and reftex (at least). It would be even much nicer if we can
convince David Kastrup to look into it to make sure everything is
installed properly and up-to-date.
I'm sure that a well configured Emacs is also very useful under UNIX
when people use the live system.
Regards,
Reinhard

Microsoft isn't the answer. Microsoft is the question, and the answer is NO.
