notes:

  a) oxdvi will disappear shortly, as new xdvi makes it 
redundant
  b) the CD will already be full :-}
  c) if we drop all TeX binaries except "tex" and "pdfetex", 
we should gain some space

I conclude that we probably _can_ afford static copies of xdvi
