There was definitely a bug in kpathsea preventing this to work under
W9x. I still need to test against it in case there are other traps.
But let me explain my intended layout :
D:\marc>dir d:\Local
Volume in drive D has no label.
Volume Serial Number is ECE6-7035
Directory of d:\Local
20/06/2000 10:38 <DIR> .
20/06/2000 10:38 <DIR> ..
01/05/2000 16:46 <DIR> Gnu
13/04/2000 10:02 <DIR> GsTools
13/04/2000 09:58 <DIR> ImageMagick
13/04/2000 09:58 <DIR> Mayura
31/05/2000 13:40 <DIR> NetPBM
10/04/2000 11:05 <DIR> NTEmacs
01/05/2000 16:32 <DIR> Perl
20/06/2000 10:38 <DIR> Tcl
29/06/2000 10:40 <DIR> TeXLive
24/08/1999 01:20 <DIR> WinCvs
25/05/2000 10:16 <DIR> XEmacs
Everything is in d:\Local because none of these apps are 'true'
windows app, even if some do behave quite well.
So, now imagine all this stuff mixed inside this one :
Directory of c:\program files
21/06/2000 23:23 <DIR> .
21/06/2000 23:23 <DIR> ..
23/08/1999 18:06 <DIR> Accessories
18/05/2000 23:38 <DIR> Adobe
07/02/2000 21:15 <DIR> Amaya
28/06/2000 23:34 <DIR> Common Files
23/08/1999 17:56 <DIR> ComPlus Applications
...
08/02/2000 16:50 <DIR> IBM techexplorer Hypermedia Browser
23/06/2000 13:52 <DIR> Internet Explorer
07/12/1999 20:42 <DIR> Microsoft FrontPage
28/06/2000 23:33 <DIR> Microsoft Office
18/03/2000 01:50 <DIR> Microsoft Platform SDK
25/08/1999 16:45 <DIR> Microsoft Script Debugger
30/11/1999 12:58 <DIR> Microsoft Visual Studio
07/05/2000 01:04 <DIR> Windows Media Player
...
23/02/2000 16:57 <DIR> Windows NT
25/06/2000 23:14 <DIR> WindowsUpdate
06/04/2000 14:29 <DIR> WinEdt
15/06/2000 09:03 <DIR> WinShell
04/10/1999 16:05 <DIR> WinZip
21/06/2000 23:23 <DIR> XML Notepad
I wonder if it is a good idea. You can notice that most of the directories in
d:\Local need to be cited in your PATH, but none of "c:\Program Files".
Any opinions ?
