sebastian, regarding the outfit that says they're making a tex cd ...

tell us more, what is their name...

oh, i suppose i won't get shot if i forward the message.
attached.

i see your concern, but I don't understand what the point of being
informed is, if you dont leave yourself any action you can take if you
see something you dont like. if someone puts amslatex on a CD of
hard-core pornography as a joke, do you have any comeback? no? then
    why ask to be informed?

in the present case, if i were to answer this without getting the
official line, i would suggest that they should also include amsfonts
and consider ams-latex as well, especially if they're including latex.
in fact, it's unclear to me that they're not referring to ams-latex
anyhow, not ams-tex. there has been a lot of (entirely too much!)
confusion around those names.

Subject: Redistribution of AMS-TeX

Hi. I have started a company that packages freely-available software
in the vendor-provided package format and makes these packages
available on CD or other distribution media. Our intention is to make
money off the service of packaging the software and also providing
some support for the software we package. We'll package various
software on CDs and make available for sale. We'll be packaging
AMS-TeX as part of our TeX package. We do not plan to make any
changes to the AMS-TeX package.

Please let me know if you have any concerns.
