If the error message reports the same line number as before, then
mpost is still using the old value. So in that case I think something
went wrong in the 'regenerate the mem file' part of that explanation
in the link you posted.

Otherwise, the difference between the reported line number in the error
and the actual number of lines in your data file should give you an
approximation of how much memory will actually be needed.
